Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center

History buffs wanting to learn more about the exploration of the Western United States, should be thankful for the dedication and ambition of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and their team of people. The Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail commemorates their exploration of eleven states, covering 3,700 miles, including Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, between 1804 and 1806. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was the first transcontinental journey of its kind from Illinois to the Pacific coast.

Their mission was to study geography and potential areas for economic growth, as directed by former President Thomas Jefferson. The explorers made their way through what is now Montana, including the cities of Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena and Missoula.
